Scots language classes start in September

Categorised as:

CLASSES in Scots language will be launched in Ayrshire at the end of September 2009.

The short course of weekly classes will be led by Margery Strattan, who sits on the national committee of the Scots Language Society.

Realising how much easier learning Scots could be if only you could do it in a class, Margery qualified as a language teacher specifically to teach the language.

Over 10 Monday evenings, she’ll apply methods that have proved successful for students of English as a foreign language. This means that the classes will be conducted in Ayrshire Scots, with participants being encouraged to speak the language right from the start.

The classes are intended to be enjoyable and confidence-building.

As well as people seeking practice in conversation, they should help writers who want their work to be authentic and accurate.

They should also enhance anybody’s appreciation of reading or listening to Scots, and enable people to continue studying the language on their own.

Margery can be contacted on learnscots@reachfar.demon.co.uk

The course starts Monday 28 September. Classes take place 6.45-8.30pm at the Community Centre, Caerlaverock Road, Prestwick KA9 1HR. Registration is £40 (conc. £25).
