Soutar poetry in song

Categorised as:

Jim Malcolm

Perth songwriter Jim Malcolm has been inspired to write new songs using the poetry of William Soutar. At an event to unveil new embroidered panels in the AK Bell Soutar Theatre, he introduced a song he has worked on, 'Hal o the Wynd'. He explained 'This poem seemed to fit into a song very easily. I enjoyed working with the Scots words and am keen to do more'. Like Soutar, Jim attended Craigie Primary School and knows the area Soutar wrote about intimately. This song was one of several Soutar inspired songs to appear on his 2009 album. Here we have an extract from his performance.
